How to Look For Grants and Scholarships For Working Mothers

How to Look For Grants and Scholarships For Working Mothers
As a working mom pursuing a college degree, you have probably found that college expenses can go beyond paying for tuition. Moms without family close by that can provide free child care also have to pay for child care when in class. There are thousands of grants and scholarships for moms available to any college student, and many of those are geared toward working mothers. Finding and applying for them, however, will take some time and perseverance.
Instructions
1 Go to the Scholarhips.com website's search page. Here you can search through a database of thousands of scholarships. When entering your search, select "parent" and "female" to get results that include being a working mother as a criterion.
2 Visit the Project Working Mom website for scholarship information. Project Working Mom provides information and resources, including scholarships, to working mothers who wish to attend specific schools online. According to the website, these schools include Everest University, Ashford University, Ashworth College, Virginia College, Walden University, Allied Schools, Capella University and Saint Leo University.
3 Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be found online at FAFSA.ed.gov. This single application lets you apply for several federal grants, scholarships and loans. By giving your income information and the number of your dependents, such as children, and your child care costs, you may qualify for aid because you are a working mother.
4 Make an appointment to meet with a financial aid counselor at your college. The counselor will have the most up-to-date information on grants and scholarships available to you as a working mother. College counselors will know of opportunities that are not well advertised or not easily found online.
