There are a number of grants available to moms who live in Ohio to help with the financial burdens that many working moms face. Child Care Grants
One of the toughest emotional and financial obstacles that many working mothers face is finding quality child care that they can afford. The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services offers grant funding to assist working Ohio families with the cost of child care in the form of child care vouchers. These child care vouchers are spent just like cash, but can only be used for the costs of child care. In order to qualify for child care grants through the state of Ohio, applicants must meet income guidelines and be willing to help pay for a portion of their child care costs, the remainder of which is paid for through the grant program. The portion that families are responsible for paying directly is usually based on income and may vary. Families may choose what child care provider they wish to use, but the provider must be approved and licensed by the state of Ohio to receive payment. Housing Grants
The cost of safe, affordable housing is another challenge that many working moms face. The Ohio Housing Finance Agency provides financial assistance in the form of housing grants to qualified Ohio residents to help offset the cost of home ownership and rent. Grants are issued through the Ohio Housing Finance Agency in cooperation with the federally funded U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Applicants who meet income guidelines may apply for grant funds to help with down payment assistance toward the purchase of a home, obtain grants to assist with the cost of necessary home repairs and to help with the cost of monthly rent payments through the Section 8 rental assistance program. Grants for Education
Working mothers in Ohio who wish to continue their education to qualify for higher-paying jobs can find assistance in paying for the costs of education through grant funds issued through the Ohio Board of Regents. The Ohio Board of Regents is an organization that works in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education while evaluating and addressing the educational needs and conditions throughout the state and makes recommendations on how to better improve the educational goals for the state. The Ohio Board of Regents issues grants to qualifying Ohio residents to attend the accredited college of their choice, however, additional funding is available for students who are interested in pursuing an education and career in nursing. The grant awards issued vary based on several factors including tuition, program and the applicant's income. Interested parties may apply directly through the Ohio Board of Regents.
