Ohio Grants For Working Moms-Find Free Grants For Single Mothers

Ohio Grants For Working Moms-Find Free Grants For Single Mothers
Being a mother can be a full-time job in itself. Mothers who work outside the home face a balancing act of caring for their children in addition to maintaining responsibilities in the workplace. There are a number of grants available to moms who live in Ohio to help with the financial burdens that many working moms face. These grants can help Buckeye State moms with the costs of housing, child care and education.
Child Care Grants
One of the toughest emotional and financial obstacles that many working mothers face is finding quality child care that they can afford. The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services offers grant funding to assist working Ohio families with the cost of child care in the form of child care vouchers. These child care vouchers are spent just like cash, but can only be used for the costs of child care. In order to qualify for child care grants through the state of Ohio, applicants must meet income guidelines and be willing to help pay for a portion of their child care costs, the remainder of which is paid for through the grant program. The portion that families are responsible for paying directly is usually based on income and may vary. Families may choose what child care provider they wish to use, but the provider must be approved and licensed by the state of Ohio to receive payment. Interested applicants must apply directly through their local office of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services to see if they qualify.
Housing Grants
The cost of safe, affordable housing is another challenge that many working moms face. The Ohio Housing Finance Agency provides financial assistance in the form of housing grants to qualified Ohio residents to help offset the cost of home ownership and rent. Grants are issued through the Ohio Housing Finance Agency in cooperation with the federally funded U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Applicants who meet income guidelines may apply for grant funds to help with down payment assistance toward the purchase of a home, obtain grants to assist with the cost of necessary home repairs and to help with the cost of monthly rent payments through the Section 8 rental assistance program. Interested applicants must apply directly through the Ohio Housing Finance Agency to ensure eligibility.
Grants for Education
Working mothers in Ohio who wish to continue their education to qualify for higher-paying jobs can find assistance in paying for the costs of education through grant funds issued through the Ohio Board of Regents. The Ohio Board of Regents is an organization that works in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education while evaluating and addressing the educational needs and conditions throughout the state and makes recommendations on how to better improve the educational goals for the state. The Ohio Board of Regents issues grants to qualifying Ohio residents to attend the accredited college of their choice, however, additional funding is available for students who are interested in pursuing an education and career in nursing. The grant awards issued vary based on several factors including tuition, program and the applicant's income. Interested parties may apply directly through the Ohio Board of Regents.

Rent Assistance For Single Moms in New Hampshire-Free Housing Assistance

Rent Assistance For Single Moms in New Hampshire-Free Housing Assistance
Affordable housing in New Hampshire costs no more than 30 percent of an individual's income -- and, at the time of publication, only 11 percent of New Hampshire's housing stock is affordable, according to the 2010 report "Homelessness in New Hampshire," published by the Emergency Shelter and Homeless Coordination Commission of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services. Single mothers who earn below $35,100 annually may have difficulty retaining rental units. New Hampshire's government and private organizations offer financial relief to qualified applicants.
Emergency Rental Assistance
Emergency assistance programs provide financial support to single mothers facing an eviction. The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services administers the Financial Assistance for Needy Families program. Single mothers seeking to prevent homelessness must submit an application, proof of the emergency and the amount required to prevent eviction. The program pays up to a two-month rental arrearage once in a 12-month period. At the time of publication, the program also pays up to $650 toward a security deposit. The New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority also offers an emergency program that provides up to three months' of assistance. The program makes funds available if a single mother exhausts all other options.
Long-Term Assistance
The New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority administers the federal housing assistance program. The program delivers a subsidy to qualified applicants through the Housing Choice Voucher program. Income and household composition determine eligibility. A single mother's income cannot exceed 30 percent of the median area income, but the authority accepts some applicants with incomes below 50 percent of the median. Applicants must submit a preliminary application, which adds an applicant's name to a wait list. The wait to receive a voucher can take up to eight years, according to the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority.
Family Assistance Program
The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services also offers the Family Assistance Program, which helps single mothers with a permanent disability or long-term challenges obtaining employment, according to the agency. The program does not require employment to qualify and offers cash assistance.
General Considerations
Single mothers must meet the guidelines and requirements for each program. The programs provide funding to persons with low and very low income. Applicants should collect the required documentation, such as income verification, birth certificates and identification for each member of the household.

Financial Assistance To Help Single Moms Buy A Home-Home Loans and Grants

Financial Assistance To Help Single Moms Buy A Home-Home Loans and Grants
Today's America has a wider percentage of families being raised by single parents, more than before. In the current statistics, about 35% of homes in the United States are led by single parents, and around 40% of these homes are maintained financially by single moms, some of which are living below poverty levels.
Some banks may think that single mothers are high-risk borrowers, so single moms applying for a bank home loan may end up not getting approved. If you are a single mom dreaming of owning your own home where you can safely raise your children, do not give up that hope yet. There are other sources of home loans for single mothers, as well as government programs that can help you realize your dream of buying your own home.
Here are just a few of the government programs that single moms who want to purchase a home for their families could avail of:
1. The Housing and Urban Development does not really provide home loans for single mothers, but they provide loan guarantees for borrowers who may not otherwise qualify for a bank home loan.
If you are a single mom, you can avail of the FHA assistance that the Housing and Urban Development provide, and once you get approved, you are more likely to be able to apply for a bank home mortgage loan.
2. The Housing Choice Vouchers Program is another HUD assistance program for single moms wanting to buy a home for her family. You have to check with your state, because every state has its own policies in giving out housing choice vouchers. Although this program is not really home loans for single mothers, it helps them and other minorities purchase a home using these financial assistance vouchers.
3. The Home Investment Partnership is also another program of the HUD which provides assistance to families with low income to come up with down payments that they need to purchase a home. You need to prove financial need to qualify for these program, as it is more geared towards small income families, not just for single moms.
Home loans for single mothers is not really impossible. You just need to do a lot of research to find out the sources for these home loans, and work with a reasonable mortgage lender who can customize a package that you can easily afford.
A single mother wanting the best for her family should never give up her dream of having her own home, where she can raise her children properly and safely. She should find resources on how she can avail of home loans for single mothers, and keep pushing to make her dream a reality.

Small Business Grants For Single Mother-Single Moms Business Grants

Small Business Grants For Single Mother-Single Moms Business Grants
Single mothers are definitely under pressure to multitask, from raising children to keeping a house to earning an income to sustain a comfortable lifestyle. If a single mom has a business idea, a good way to start the small business is to research and apply for financial grants that can help get the business started. Grants are not loans but are financial support and come from different types of organizations, from corporations to private foundations to the federal government. While grants are considered "free money" to some, there are guidelines with each type of grant that need to be followed once the grant has been provided. These include providing annual reports and financial statements once the business is off the ground. Many organizations, including the government, fund grants for single mothers. Here are steps on how to search for the grant that is best related to your business plan and goals.

Federal Government Grants

Go to Grants.gov and begin your search. There are many ways to search for the grant you are looking for. This website lists Grant Opportunities where you can search by category (from Arts to Transportation), or by agency (from the Department of Agriculture to Small Business Administration), or you can do an advanced search where you can search how far out the agencies give their grants, what type of funding you are requesting, and more. If you have found a grant that you qualify for, the next step is to apply for the grant in just a few easy steps.
Corporation Grants
Many large corporations have departments that give grants to people for many different reasons. The Levi Strauss company, for example, gives grants to low-income working people so they can build assets and possibly finance education to enhance and stabilize their future. Both Home Depot and the Bank of America corporations give grants to local communities. Bank of America says, "Our local market presidents and their teams develop relationships with other community leaders to determine the best use of philanthropic dollars in each community." The best site for searching for corporate grantors is The Non-Profit Times, a searchable database of thousands of corporations.
Private Foundation Grants
Private foundations are set up to provide funding for people who are looking for financial assistance to set up a business. They also provide grants for many other individuals or groups for numerous reasons. The Foundation Center is a subscription-based search engine and a "national nonprofit service organization recognized as the nation's leading authority on organized philanthropy, connecting nonprofits and the grantmakers supporting them to tools they can use and information they can trust." While The Foundation Center isn't free, it provides the best information for private foundation grants available, and there are levels of subscription that should help you, depending on your financial situation.
Before You Begin
Before you begin looking for your single mother business grant, be prepared to answer some questions the grantor will ask. For instance, how far will your business reach (local or national), how much money will you need to launch your business, how many employees would you need, will you have a board of directors to assist with decision making, and finally, do you have short- and long-term goals for growth?
Tips
According to Grants.biz, there are over 1,500 domestic government grant programs available to the American public for 2009 alone, with over 1,000 federal Government grant programs, 24,000 state programs, 30,000 private foundations and 20,000 scholarship programs available as well as nearly 840,000 nonprofit organizations. Current funding for government grants is at 1.5 trillion dollars for 2009, so don't be discouraged if you get a rejection. The key to this task is try and try again.
Your local library may be a great reference for searching for grants, as many libraries carry the Grantmakers Reference Books, which provide listings of foundations indexed by what types of businesses and organizations or programs they give to. If you start with a letter of inquiry versus a full-length proposal, write a short, one-page query, but always follow the guidelines of the specific grantor. If you do not receive a response to your letter of inquiry, you can follow up with your full-length proposal. Be persistent and optimistic--if your idea is a good one, there are many resources that can help you along the way.

First Time Home Buyer Grants For Single Mothers-Home Buying Grants

First Time Home Buyer Grants For Single Mothers-Home Buying Grants
There is a critical difference between a home buyer grant and a home buyer loan. Home buyer grants generally do not have to be repaid provided the stated terms of the grant are fulfilled. There are variations on this so the single mother should be alert, as should every grant applicant. Home buyer loans are simply the use of funds for a defined time period that belong to others (i.e., banks, lenders) and always require repayment, unless forgiven.
Eligibility
These first-time home buyer grant programs for single mothers are not widely advertised because it is regarded as a specific market niche and advertising dollars are not readily available. There are two basic eligibility requirements: first the earned wages of the mother have to be within the limits of the specific grant program, and secondly the mother cannot have held ownership in a home within the past three years. The grant money is not considered income and therefore free of taxes, and the money is not considered a financial liability that has to be included in any future financial matters.
Qualifying Factors
The first-time home buyer grants are geared toward supplementing the efforts of the successful applicant well along in the process, as opposed to being awarded at the beginning. The single mother usually has to have a mortgage commitment from a customary source, such as a bank, mortgage company or a credit union. Also, the grant program rules usually have a maximum percentage cap of the total mortgage--most do not exceed 10% of the total debt. A key concept to remember in the qualification process is DPA, which stands for down payment assistance. The idea here is a one-time help step for the single mother to afford getting started, as opposed to an ongoing grant commitment.
Professional Help
The best source of grant funds for first-time home buyer single mothers is the U.S. government, administered through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Most individual states have similar programs, with a variation of title about housing assistance, and the source of these funds is channeled through HUD (Housing and Urban Development). The Internet is the most complete source for program descriptions and application assistance, and caution is advised relative to sources that charge fees and sell kits containing information that the public can obtain at no cost. The process can be long and slow and wearisome due to a variety of factors, so a person should plan accordingly. The best possible results are likely if you work with a single realtor dedicated to help you in the long process, and likewise a single mortgage or lender originator. The third adviser, if warranted, is a credit counselor to assist with credit repair and financial planning. Each of these should be knowledgeable and committed to you for the long term, and likewise you should be committed to them.

Grants For Single Mothers to Pay Off Debt-Grants To Repay Loans

Grants For Single Mothers to Pay Off Debt-Grants To Repay Loans
A grants is better than a loan because you do not have to repay the money you get under a grant. For single mothers it can get difficult to strike a balance between meeting the financial commitments and taking care of the family. Many a time, it so happens that they get over burdened with responsibility, and aren't able to provide for their family. Single mothers unable to cope with such situations, find themselves in a debt trap with nowhere to turn for help. Taking a loan to pay off the debt or to do something meaningful with their lives is just not an option, in such cases, grants are the only help available. Grants for single mothers are offered by the government and nonprofit organizations, to help them support their families.
There are government grants that allow single mothers to start a business and this way they could pay off their personal debt. Not for profit organizations grants and government grants are also given to single mothers to complete their education. Let us take a look at some of these grants.
College Grants
The US government has several programs that offer college grants for single moms. The federal Pell grant program offers grant money ranging from USD 400 to USD 5,000 and has a turn around time of 2 to 4 weeks. To apply for this grant you will need to fill out the 'Free Application for Federal Student Aid' (FAFSA). You will also need documents like social security number, driving license and income proof to apply for this grant. The college financial aid office will be able to provide you detailed information about these grants.
The Teach Grant is also a great initiative of the government grants for single mothers that allows them to study and acquire higher education. Grants are for a specific purpose and the Teach Grant stipulates that you are required to teach for at least a year in schools that cater to students from families with low income. It offers up to USD 4,000 in grant money.
Not for profit organizations like Jeannette Rankin Foundation provide college grants for women over the age of 30. A woman getting a scholarship is able to pursue higher education and get gainful employment, such grants can be termed as financial aid for single mothers to pay off debt. Other organizations like Raise the Nation and the Women's Independence Scholarship program also offer financial assistance to single mothers.
Some organizations offer to pay of your education debts if you are pursuing education that will be helpful to society for example if you're studying to be a teacher or if you are studying medicine.
Another resource to check for grants that will eventually help you pay off your debts is the Office of Departmental Grants Management and Oversight (ODGMO). The government has allocated millions of dollars in grant money, which enables single mothers to pursue business opportunities. Although the government does not advertise these grants, taking advantage of this some organizations offer these same grants.

How to Get Scholarships and Grants For Single Mothers

How to Get Scholarships and Grants For Single Mothers
You are struggling to keep a roof over your kids' heads and food on the table, and you are working day in and day out just to make that happen. As a single mom, there is very little time to sleep – much less time for thinking about things like returning to school to finish your degree.
In today's economy, finding a job is hard. Finding one without adequate educational credentials is harder. If you want to support your family for the long haul, you must take a break from what you are doing, find some help, and get back in school. You will be better prepared to provide for your family once you graduate; you can get a raise or find a better job altogether. Understanding what scholarships and grants for single mothers are out there will help you get started in your journey to better both yourself and your family.
Federal Scholarships and Grants for Single Mothers
The first step when applying for grants for single moms is to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. You can do this by visiting the U.S. Department of Education's web portal. Once you have completed this step, you will automatically be eligible for financial grants for single mothers. After the U.S. Department of Education processes your application, you will receive a notice in the mail informing you of the grants you have received.
There are several kinds of federal cash grants for single mothers that you may qualify for once you have filed the FAFSA. These programs include:
State Scholarships and Grants for Single Mothers
The next step you should take is to visit your state's agency that deals with financial aid. Stop by the U.S. Department of Education's website and find your state. Contact the agency and make an appointment. When you are there, apply for as many state scholarships and grants as possible. Make sure to mention your area of study, because you may qualify for nursing grants for single mothers, teaching grants for single mothers, or others depending on your field.
The scholarships and grants you may apply and qualify for will of course vary by state, but some examples of state-based grants and scholarships include the following programs:
The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund
Georgia Executive Women's Network (GEWN) Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship
New York State's Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
Georgia's Wish Scholarship
Private Scholarships and Grants for Single Mothers
Once you have maxed out your options on the federal and state levels, look for private entities that offer scholarships and grants for single mothers and apply for anything you can find. Some private organizations and individual scholarships you can research include:
Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund
Displaced Homemaker Scholarships
Possible Woman Foundation Scholarship
Women's Opportunity Awards
Raise the Nation Foundation's "Child of a Single Parent Woman Scholarship"
The Crane Fund for Widows and Children (Indiana residents)
You can find private scholarships and grants in a variety of places online, so by no means is this list exhaustive. It is a guide for you to get started. You can visit your state's Department of Education to find more about private scholarships and grants in your state, or you can do an internet search to find national private entities that offer financial help for your education as well.

Home Loans For Single Mothers-Program For Single Mothers For Housing

Home Loans For Single Mothers-Program For Single Mothers For Housing

Obama Scholarships and Grants For Single Moms-Free Government Money

Obama Scholarships and Grants For Single Moms-Free Government Money
If you are a mom who is sick and tired of struggling to make ends meet, then you must find out about the Obama scholarships and grants for moms. This free money will help you make your dreams come true by affording you the opportunity to further your education and in turn make more money.
Let's face it, kids are expensive. When they are babies there are the stacks of diapers, cute baby clothes, expensive baby food, and repeated trips to the doctors. Once they get a little older, then you have preschool to pay for or mommy and me classes. When they are older than that, forget about it; things just get more expensive for them. Every parent always wants to take their kids places like the aquarium or museum or even Chuck-E-Cheese for some fun and we know how expensive those little outings can be.
Needless to say, raising a family is quite expensive. If you are stuck in a low-paying job with no foreseeable way to make more money then you only have one choice and that is go to back to school and get trained in a better paying line of work.
Granted, juggling a family and going back to school can be tough, but look at the alternative, which is a life of always barely scraping buy and watching your kids grow up with less than their friends. It is not a pretty picture or a good feeling for a parent to have. I know. I have been there.
When I found out I was expecting my first child, I had a job at a bar and I knew that I had to get out, so I went back to school. I have never regretted that decision. Of course there were hard times during that time, but I am so much better for it and so are my kids. Without my extra income, we would never be able to enjoy having a nice home, decent car, and yearly vacations.
I know if you are expecting a child or already have one, then you want nothing but the best for him or her. If you truly want to return to school to better your education, then just apply for one of the many grants available to you. If your income falls within a certain range, you may be approved for a total free ride with nothing to pay back in the future. Just be sure you do something now so you have no regrets later. You can even take a chance by entering a $10,000 scholarship give away for moms.

Financial Assistance For Single Mothers in Nevada-Grants For Single Parents

Financial Assistance For Single Mothers in Nevada-Grants For Single Parents
Nevada is the huge state that is located in the western part of the United States. The area of the state is about 110,000 sq miles. This is the seventh largest state in the United States. Also in terms of population, the state comes in at number 35. Considering the fact that the state is so vast, the population is quite sparse. There are many single mothers who reside in Nevada. Many of these single parents and single mothers suffer from financial difficulties because of the hard times in the recession.
Transportation for Single Mothers in Nevada
Transportation is a necessity for everyone. Many single parents may not be able to afford a vehicle of their own due to financial constraints. In these cases, public transportation at Nevada can be quite helpful. If there is no public transportation available, single mothers may have to find other alternative to get where they need to go.
Single mothers Healthcare
Health care insurance is usually provided by the employer. However, if health care insurance is not provided at your place of work, then a trip to the doctor would drain single parents of their income. Children get sick and need to go to the doctor so parents need health insurance to be able to take care of them. Medical assistance is provided by the government in different forms. Most families who fall in the low-income groups can avail of the Medicaid program which is available from the government of Nevada.
Childcare
For a mother, taking care of the children is one of the greatest responsibilities. There are many times when a mother will have to leave her children at home in order to continue her full-time job or schooling. Also, single mothers usually struggle in order to take care of their children because of the cost involved with paying for childcare. In Nevada, The Division of Welfare and Support Services offers financial assistance to single mothers. The child care and development fund is one of the programs that are offered by the state of Nevada in which parents having children under the age of 12 can get financial assistance for childcare. This helps lessen or even eliminate the cost of childcare for parents who want to work or go to school.
Food and supplies
It often happens that single mothers and single parents cannot afford to buy good food for the family. In situations like this, the government has programs like the supplemental nutrition assistance program that offers financial assistance to single parents in purchasing the basic necessities like food and other supplies. In order to qualify for this service from the government, the person may need to have children under the age of five.
Grants from the Government
As always, government grants are free money that is received from the government. These monies do not have to be paid back to the government as long as it is used for the intended purpose. The government also gives a lot of grants for single parents and single mothers in the form of college grants in order to pursue their higher education.

Financial Assistance and Help For Single Mothers in Alabama-Housing ,Education,Childcare

Financial Assistance and Help For Single Mothers in Alabama-Housing ,Education,Childcare
There’s no getting away from it, these days being a single mom is a tough job. Not only do you have to be both mom and dad to your kids, there’s no one to share the worries and financial burdens with either.
Single moms find it harder to find jobs, as they’ve got to either find child care or work just part time, so getting enough money in to survive isn’t always simple. It’s easy to get scared and isolated if you’re a single mom, as after all, raising the next generation of citizens is the most important job anyone can be asked to do!
Luckily, the state of Alabama has programs in place to help its single mothers. So, by finding out the right places to go ask for help, you can let Alabama take some of that strain off your shoulders.
What Alabama does for single mothers
Alabama recognizes the tough situation that single moms can find themselves in, and so has in place a wide variety of programs to meet your needs. Getting the right financial help isn’t just about being given more money, it’s about being shown how to save money on transportation costs, how to get access to cheap and nutritional food and being helped to find affordable childcare so you can get out to work to become more independent. It’s also about help to find the right affordable housing (including heating and other utilities) and healthcare programs.
All the above can be daunting, especially if you happen to be new to Alabama. You don’t know how it all works, but all you really need to know is where to get the right advice.
Single moms can find that having enough money just to survive is a tough call. If you’ve got really young kids, or you’re pregnant, going out to work, even if you can find a job, is impossible. So, the first thing you need to do is find the right place to go to get help with money. It can be hard to find, in Alabama, as the state has a high number of eligible single parents and low income families to cater for, and also many jobs have been lost in the state since the start of the economic crisis. All this makes it more important than ever to know where to turn for help! So what are the financial assistance for single mothers in Alabama options?
TANF (Temporary Cash Assistance for Needy Families) is the first place look.
They’ll take into account your income and assets, whether or not you’re pregnant or have a young child, and you have to prove residency in Alabama. You will also have to take part in a work program if you don’t have at least a part time job that fulfils the criteria.
While getting actual hard cash handouts can be difficult in Alabama (as it is in any state), there are many other ways of getting assistance for life’s necessities.
Food Assistance
If you’re raising kids, getting the right nutrition for them is one of the most important things you can do. A well nourished child will do better at school, is less likely to become ill and will generally give you less problems to deal with.
In Alabama, if you’ve got kids under the age of 5 or if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, there’s a program that allows you to be given vouchers to get healthy basic foodstuffs such as dairy produce that are vital for feeding you and your kids. Here’s how to find out more and contact the program.
It may also be possible, if you are a low income family, to receive help with buying essential foods with food stamps. Again, you need to meet the eligibility criteria, outlined on the website linked below. Note this is a federal assistance program, not just a state program.
The site contains links that take you to your nearest participating food stamps office, and another to download the application forms.
The Alabama Department of Human Resources is also a helpful source of information about food stamps.
If you prefer to apply by post, paper applications can be made to the following address: 50, North Ripley Street, Montgomery AL
Childcare Assistance
Single moms don’t have the luxury of staying at home while dad goes out to work to earn the cash, so childcare is another essential area you need to look at. Childcare can be expensive, but the state of Alabama has programs in place to help you find good and affordable childcare. The Office of Childcare Subsidy can help a lot of single moms out, so find out here if you could be eligible for subsidized day care for your child, whether in your own home or in a center
Unfortunately, not everyone will be eligible for the subsidies, but there are other things you can do. There may be other single moms in your neighbourhood that can take it in turns to care for the kids while the others work, or there may be a church or community group locally. Explore all the options. The more chances you give yourself to find help, the higher the likelihood of success.
Healthcare isn’t a matter of choice when you’ve got young kids. Children have a way of becoming ill at the most inconvenient of times, and no mom wants to take risks with her child’s health. In Alabama, there are two programs set up to help with this. Pregnant and nursing moms can apply to SOBRA Medicaid, while ALL KIDS caters for young people under the age of 19 who aren’t eligible for Medicaid or whose families have a low income. Find out more here.
Safe and affordable housing is another huge area of concern. Single moms are more vulnerable than two parent families, but decent quality housing can be hard to find at lower rents. Your local Public Housing Agency can advise you if there is anything available through their rent assistance schemes. Alabama HUD may also offer help to find a suitable subsidized apartment.
Education Assistance
If they’re going to get on in the world, kids need a good education. Often, so do their moms, as more qualifications can mean a better job, which in turn brings in more cash. The trouble is, education, like everything else, costs money, creating a vicious spiral of problems that may seem insurmountable. But, help is at hand in several ways.
FAFSA, if you’re eligible, can provide grants and scholarships to get you and your kids through college or onto educational programs to improve your prospects. If you aren’t eligible for FAFSA, there are still options. If you want to train for a particular career, for example as a teacher, there is specialized help available. The Online Educational Database for Alabama has a list of useful scholarships and grant schemes to explore.
Don’t forget, there are lots of possibilities for finding educational assistance out there, and searching the net for big companies or celebrities who may offer help is another way to find aid. It’s always good to try your own state first, but the wider you can make your search, the better.
Transportation Assistance
When it comes to transportation, the bad news is that the state of Alabama isn’t going to give you a private taxi to get around…but there is a good and extensive public transport system in place in most of Alabama’s towns and cities. Get familiar with buses, mini bus schemes and even shared transport schemes that may be available in your locality. Some of these are not official, so you won’t find them through state boards, but may be organized by other parents or single moms in the same town.
The state might be able to help with transportation costs though. For example, if you are eligible for Medicaid there are transport subsidies you may be able to get.
To find out everything you may be entitled to can take a lot of time and a lot of effort, but it can make all the difference to your quality of life, and that of your kids. The internet is a wonderful tool to help you find out what’s possible, and even if you don’t have a computer at home you can get access to the internet through public libraries and some community associations. Joining local single parent groups can be helpful too, as pooling experiences is invaluable in addition to the support you’ll get from people who share your situation and worries.

Pell Grants For Single Mothers-Free Government Grants For School And College Education

Pell Grants For Single Mothers-Free Government Grants For School And College Education
Many potential college students learn about college from television. They view college as a season full of fun, romance, parties, sororities, and, if there’s time, a few classes.
While secondary education may work this way for some individuals, most college students are faced with constant worry about how they are going to pay for rent, food, textbooks, and classes. They often work part-time or even full-time jobs and spend their spare time studying.
Doesn’t sound much like a television college student’s life, does it?
Many students become overwhelmed with the reality of college life and the costs associated with earning their degrees. Some will postpone or even drop out when money becomes too tight. Because of this, the federal government has made an effort to encourage education by offering the Federal Pell Grant.
Understanding Pell Grants and How They are Distributed
Federal Pell Grants are a form of federal funding that is used to help you pay for your higher education. These grants can be used at more than 5,400 colleges nationwide, but can only be used for one college at a time.
Once a student applies for a Pell Grant, the U.S. Department of Education decides whether the student is eligible or not. If the student is eligible for the grant, the funds are transferred to the financial aid office of the college the student will be attending.
The school will then either pay the student by check or the financial aid office will combine the tuition costs and apply the grant to the total cost of tuition.
If the second form of distribution is used, any leftover funds will be disbursed to the student by the school. Leftover funds especially come in handy to students, as they can be used for anything from rent to the purchase of a new laptop.
Pell Grant Eligibility Criteria
Pell Grants are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. However, the following criteria will be considered:
Your financial information. Pell Grants are only available to students who have a financial need for them. Your income, or your parent’s income if you are still consider to be a dependent, will be looked at to determine if you really need the assistance.
The number of classes you will be enrolled in during the semester.
The costs of the college you will be attending.
Pell Grant Funding Amounts
Once you qualify for a Pell Grant, you can receive up to $5,550 for the 2011 to 2012 school year. The exact amount will be determined by the eligibility criteria.
For instance, you may receive will receive more funding if you are attending college full-time, rather than part time. Students who are eligible for funding and have had a parent or guardian pass away as a result of military service after September 11, 2001 in Afghanistan or Iraq are automatically eligible for the full award. Because the Pell Grant is a grant, you will not be required to repay the money you are given.
A Pell Grant may not cover your entire college tuition. An Expected Family Contribution or EFC may be required, depending on your financial status. The EFC determines how you or your family will be able to pay for college.
It is based on the number of family members you have, your income, and the number of individuals in your family attending college at the same time. For the 2011-2012 academic year, families who earn $30,000 to $31,000 a year can qualify for an automatic zero EFC.
How to Apply for a Pell Grant
Applying for a Pell Grant is relatively easy. Your first step should be filling out a FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid. To do so, you will need to have your driver’s license, social security number, current tax returns, bank statements, and proof of your United States citizenship.
This application can be filled out on the internet at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Hard copies can also be obtained by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID.
Are you ready for college?
If you are worried about how you are going to afford your education, start the Federal Pell Grant application process today. The application is free and you can obtain a large portion, if not all, of your tuition with this option.

Government Assistance For Single Mothers-single Mother Assistance

Government Assistance For Single Mothers-single Mother Assistance
Single mothers have their hands full with being the head of the household, doing the job of two parents and trying to keep food on the table. The government understands the plight of the single parent household. Programs for food, medical, financial support and housing assistance are available.
Each State in the United States dedicates funds for the individual counties to delegate to meet the financial needs of the residents. With these monies the counties offer financial assistance per demonstration of the participants of financial need. Each county has a Department of Health and Human Services located in the County Seat. Your local phone book will have the contact information listed in the front under county offices. Financial Services are received following an application and assessment process. The application can be completed independently at home and mailed in to the County offices or completed in an appointment with an employee of the County. The process can be expedited by supplying all requested documentation with the initial application submission.
A person never knows when a crisis will develop. With the high cost of medical insurance many one parent families choose to gamble with no health coverage. The Government recognizes the investment in the health of the Countries youth is an investment in the future of the Country. Medical Assistance is available from the Department of Human Services as an entitlement program. The application which is filled out for Financial Assistance is also the application for Medical Assistance. In a simple step of adding a check mark in a box the applicant is considered for Medical coverage. Most states have provisions to ensure all children have some form of health insurance. If a parents earnings are above the requirement for this entitlement program there may be a deductible for the child's coverage.
Also available from the Department of Human Services is food stamps. Once again the same application as financial assistance serves for food stamps and for free/reduced meals at school. With a check mark, the case will be reviewed for meeting the requirements for food programs. The main office at the child's school can also supply applications for the free and reduced food program. Food programs such as these allow for financial resources to cover other needs without the sacrifice of nutrition.
Along with a roof over the head and food in the stomach, a person needs to have heat to warm the house. Once again the application filled out for your resident County can give you access to Energy Assistance. This is an emergency fund where the County can give assistance to individuals in danger of losing heat and electricity services.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development, also referred to as HUD, offers two entitlement programs for families which meet financial guidelines. The first program is Low Income Housing. These units are usually in the form of an apartment building or community of buildings which are owned by HUD where the rent is offered at a subsidized rate. The second program is Section Eight Housing. This program usually has a considerable waiting list involved. The program participant finds an apartment of interest. With the agreement of the landlord, the consumer pays for a portion of the rent with HUD paying the remaining portion. The rent does need to be "reasonable" in meeting the specifications of the program. These programs are accessed by contacting the local HUD office and completing an application. Your counties Department of Human Services can assist in providing the contact number.

Home Loans For Single Mothers-Housing Programs For Single Moms

Home Loans For Single Mothers-Housing Programs For Single Moms
Single mothers, who are interested in availing home loans, may find it difficult to contend with the stringent requirements for procuring conforming mortgages. The lending standards for conventional mortgages have been revamped by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae since they were placed under the conservatorship of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) in September 2008. Today, single mothers who are interested in availing conforming loans need to have good credit scores preferable in the 700s for procuring the same at a reasonable rate of interest. The article on home loans for single mothers discusses the options that are available to single moms who are interested in procuring home mortgages at a reasonable rate of interest.
Provision of Home Loans for Single Mothers
Manufactured Home Loans
The FHA (Federal Housing Administration) insures Title I loans that can be used to purchase or refinance a manufactured home, to purchase a developed lot on which the borrower intends to place the manufactured home, or to purchase both the lot and the manufactured home. Title I loans are not Federal Grants or government home loans for single mothers. The interest on these loans is fixed and is negotiated between the mortgage lender and the borrower. It is important to understand that FHA does not provide these loans but only insures the loans disbursed by the FHA approved lenders. This insurance guarantees the lender of recovering the dues in the event of the borrower defaulting on the loan, thus reducing the rate of interest charged by the lender. The maximum term of a Title I loan is 20 years if one decides to buy just the manufactured home or opts to buy a single-section manufactured home and the lot. The duration of the loan, availed to buy a multi-section manufactured home and a lot, is 25 years and that for the lot purchase alone is 15 years. Although, the applicant's credit history and income are important considerations, the applicant is not rejected unless she has an adverse credit history. Thus, manufactured home loans are not a bad idea for single moms.
Good Neighbor Next Door Mortgages
Single mothers who are working as emergency medical technicians, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade teachers, law-enforcement officers or firefighters, are eligible for 'Good Neighbor Next Door Mortgages'. Women in the above mentioned professions can apply for an FHA insured mortgage that requires a down payment of just $100 to purchase a HUD home listed under the 'Good Neighbor Next Door Sales Program'. The best part about these homes is that, they can be purchased at 50 percent off listed price. The low price of the home coupled with an FHA insured mortgage guarantees women of a great deal on the home. One can purchase a home listed under the 'Good Neighbor Next Door Sales Program' even if one does not want to avail an FHA insured mortgage. However, the benefits of the FHA insured loan make it a worthwhile proposition. The homeowner is required to live in the house for 36 months from the date of purchase and sign a second mortgage and a note for the discount. No interest or payments are charged on the second mortgage provided the homeowner occupies the home for a period of 3 years from the date of purchase.
FHA Insured Mortgages
The discussion on home loans for single moms is incomplete without the mention of FHA insured loans. The borrower is required to make a down payment of just 3.5 percent of the purchase price of the house. Despite the low down payment requirement, the borrower does not have to purchase private mortgage insurance (PMI). This is because FHA insures the loan and charges an upfront premium of 1.75 percent for purchase money mortgages (type of seller financing) and full-credit qualifying refinances. The remaining premium is paid along with the monthly mortgage payments till such time the loan-to-value of the mortgage reaches 78 percent of the initial sales price or the appraised value of the home, whichever is less. The credit requirements are less stringent and even borrowers, who do not have the amount required for down payment, can use the anticipated $8000 tax credit (as a security) and procure a short-term loan that is secured by a second lien on the home.
