Single mothers in Arkansas can find individualized scholarships based on the county in which they live and on a statewide level. These scholarships offer varying application deadlines and require certain criteria to be met before they can be offered. All of the scholarships listed come from the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund.
Johnson County Single Parent Scholarship
Johnson County offers a scholarship for single parents that must be submitted by June 15 of each year. To qualify you must be single, divorced or widowed. You must also be considered low income (150 percent of poverty level). Applicants must also have graduated from high school or have received their GED. In addition, recipients must have a Pell Grant or be in the process of gaining one.
White Country Single Parent Scholarship
Three scholarship deadlines are offered for each semester of the school year. These deadlines include fall semester (Sept. 1), spring semester (Dec. 31) and summer semester (May 15). You must be a resident of White County, have applied for a Pell Grant with proof of status, and have a GPS of at least 2.5 or the test equivalency of the same grade levels. Applicants must also be "near" the poverty level, with proof of weekly earning levels.
Cleveland County Single Parent Scholarship
Application deadlines for the Cleveland County single-parent scholarship is July 15 for the fall semester, Nov. 15 for the spring semester and March 15 for the summer semester. Applicants must have a GED or high school diploma, be a single head of household, be close to the poverty level, and have applied or be in the process of applying for a Pell Grant.
Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Northwest Arkansas
Established in 1984, SPSF NWA is a private nonprofit 501(c)3 organization founded in 1984 that offers $250,000 in scholarships per year. The scholarship can pay for the costs of a student's education and related living expenses. Applicants must be a resident of Carroll, Madison or Washington County and be a Pell Grant applicant with a GPA of at least 2.0. Applicants cannot be above 200 percent of the poverty line.
